NED, Inc. Board of Directors Opening

Northeast Nebraska Development, Inc. (NED, Inc.) has an opening on its Board of Directors to fill beginning with the July 1, 2016, fiscal year.  The Corporation is a nonprofit, public benefit corporation whose specific purpose is to address community and economic development opportunities in Northeast Nebraska, and to seek funds, grants, contributions and any other type of funding to attain these goals.

The board term is for three years. Board members can serve two consecutive terms.  We estimate that the average time commitment (including meetings, special functions and communications) is approximately 30-40 hours per year.  Monthly board meetings are held the last Wednesday of each month beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Six of the twelve meetings are held via conference call so limited travel is required.  The remaining six in person meetings are held in Norfolk, NE, at the City’s office.

Monthly Meeting Highlights

The NENEDD and NED, Inc. monthly meetings were held on January 27, 2016. Highlights from the meeting include approvals of one business loan and one down payment assistance loan.

NED, Inc. approved a $180,000 loan to Dr. Lane Handke and Handke Enterprises, LLC. Dr. Handke is a general practitioner who is contracted by Faith Regional Health Services and currently has a medical office in Pierce. The project will include building a new medical office and pharmacy in order to increase patient care and meet their needs.

There will be one more home in northeast Nebraska purchased by a new homebuyer with the assistance of NED, Inc.’s down payment assistance funds. The loan of $9,000 at 0% interest will not require payment until transfer of title. For more details on our housing programs, visit our website.

The next NED, Inc. and NENEDD board meetings will be held on February 24, 2016.
